"The Price of Being a Woman: Hania’s Journey to Power and Freedom" part two |AS Your Voice |

Hania’s journey from abuse and despair to courage and independence is an inspiring story of a mother who fought for her daughter and rebuilt her life with strength and dignity." part 2 |AS Your Voice |

Suggested:
"From abuse and despair to courage and independence — Hania’s journey is a powerful tale of a mother who fought for her daughter and rebuilt her life with dignity and strength."

A young woman standing alone, symbolizing strength and struggle.

When I asked her, “Was your husband good to you?” she gave a faint smile and said,
“Did you really think so? The truth is, when something comes into your life that nobody will ever question you about — no one will ask how you treat it — you take care of it only as long as you like it. And when you’re done with it, you simply throw it away. I was never wanted. I was destined to be discarded.”

Her father had abandoned her. Her mother left her at the mercy of fate. And soon after her nikkah, her husband treated her as nothing more than an object.

“Hania, take her inside and put her to work,” he commanded, as if she was a piece of furniture to be moved around.

From that moment, her life became a chain of silent suffering.

The House of Cruelty  |AS Your Voice |

The mansion was enormous — a haveli where two families lived: her husband’s and his uncle’s. There were rules, hierarchies, and a suffocating sense of power imbalance. Every corner of that house whispered her worthlessness.

If tea had too much sugar, hot tea would be thrown on her hands.
If the ironing wasn’t perfect, a heated iron would burn her skin.
She wasn’t allowed to sit in the presence of others. She wasn’t allowed to speak unless spoken to.

But amidst the cruelty, one person — Hamida, a senior maid — showed her small kindness. A little water, a few minutes of rest, a quiet conversation in the kitchen. Small mercies that gave her the strength to keep breathing.

Pregnancy and Fear |AS Your Voice |

One day, her health worsened, and a doctor was called. The test revealed she was pregnant. The entire house went quiet, waiting for her husband’s reaction.

“If it’s a boy, fine,” he said coldly. “If it’s a girl, you know what to do.”

Those words shook her to the core. She had seen what happened to baby girls in that house — three times before, daughters were killed at birth. She could not, would not, let that happen to her child.

A Secret Ally |AS Your Voice |

During her next checkup, the doctor revealed, “It’s a girl.”
Terrified, she begged the doctor to lie, to tell the family it was a boy.
The doctor hesitated but eventually agreed, saying, “Then you must figure out how to protect her. I can only hide this for now.”

When the news of a “boy” reached the house, everyone suddenly became kinder. Her husband’s anger softened slightly. But inside, she lived every moment in fear, knowing the truth no one else did.

It was then that Hamida whispered something that changed everything:
Afzal Sahib told me to look after you. He is… different from the others. Maybe, if you ask him, he can help you save your baby.”

At first, Hania hesitated. She had always seen Afzal as quiet but respectful, the only man in the house who never humiliated her. But when the burden grew too heavy, she gathered her courage and approached him.

“Please… help me save my daughter,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Afzal looked at her in shock, then nodded. “I’ll think of something,” he said. “Don’t lose hope.”

A New Beginning |AS Your Voice |

Days started to pass. Hania felt a little at peace but not enough to live without fear. Then, Afzal Bhai came up with a plan. He convinced the doctor who had done her ultrasound and the maid, Hamida, to help him.

Finally, the day arrived when Hania’s baby was about to open her eyes to the world. Hania was taken inside, and after some time, the doctor came out and told everyone that Hania had died and that the baby boy was stillborn.

Hania’s husband, upon hearing this, coldly said to bury her and walked away. Her death didn’t matter to him — perhaps because he believed he had already seen his son.

A Blessing from Allah |AS Your Voice |

But Allah had a different plan. At that very moment, another family at the hospital had just lost their newborn son. Hania’s brother-in-law approached them, showed them that baby, and arranged the burial.

No one came looking for Hania. Hamida and the doctor quietly took her home. Afzal Bhai had already arranged for her to leave. She stayed at Hamida’s house for a few days until she recovered, and then she moved out.

The Road to Independence |AS Your Voice |

Afzal Bhai’s friend’s wife, Kashaf, was running an NGO. Hania, with her newborn daughter, went there seeking help. She soon realized she could use her skills to survive. Being a village girl, she knew how to stitch clothes beautifully.

Kashaf also had a boutique but didn’t pay much attention to it. When she saw Hania’s talent, she offered her a job. This was the start of a new chapter — Hania began earning for herself and her daughter.

Her work was so good that within a few years, she bought the boutique from Kashaf, who no longer had an interest in it.

Success and Strength  |AS Your Voice |

Today, Hania’s daughter is eight years old and studying in a nearby school. Hania now breathes freely, living her life with dignity.

To those who once said that daughters are a burden, she proudly says:

“Look at my daughter — she brought me luck. She is my strength. Today, I stand tall as a successful businesswoman because of her.”

The Downfall of the Cruel  |AS Your Voice |

Afzal Bhai remained in touch with Hania, treating her like a sister. Two years ago, he revealed the shocking truth: Shahmeer, who was in love with another girl, was betrayed by her — she looted his wealth and had him killed.

Shah Sahib, the man who had once been cruel to everyone, couldn’t bear Shahmeer’s death. Hania’s father-in-law suffered a stroke, her sister-in-law was married off far from the village, and Afzal Bhai married the same doctor who had saved Hania’s life.

About a year ago, the family discovered that Hania and her daughter were alive. Now they all want to meet her. She allows them to talk to her daughter but keeps her own distance, refusing to let them back into her life.

Hania’s Message  |AS Your Voice |

Hania shares her heartfelt message with the world:

  • A mother is never weak. She can fight against all odds if she gathers the courage.

  • Daughters are not a curse. They can become your strength if you nurture and believe in them.

  • Give your daughters the right to breathe. Don’t give them reckless freedom, but at least allow them enough space to dream and make choices.

She says:

“I used to complain to Allah, but now I thank Him. He gave me a new life, and my daughter is my power. Today, I am a strong woman — not just for myself but for every girl who thinks she’s trapped.”
